Well, there is an island, where people speak English which sounds are like 1,500 years ago. And most of words originated from old English nouns like "youth", "son", "daughter", "field", "friend", " home" and "ground". Preposition like "in", "on", "into", "by", "from", "and", "the" are from old English. All the numbers and verbs like "drink", "come", "go" ant others are also from old English.
And in the 5th century Germanic tribes, Angles, Saxons and others made sail to look for a place for better life. So, they had found British islands and had taken their language and traditions. In 597 the monk tribes had a mission from Rome to Kent. So, Celtic church were established in the north. And they bring the international language of the christian religion - Latin.
